First Carbon-14 Observations in the Great Australian Bight
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Great Australian Bight south of Australia is an important link for the flow of surface, intermediate and deep water between the Indian and Pacific Ocean. Carbon-14 is a tracer of this flow and for the first time, water samples for subsequent carbon-14 analysis were collected at several locations within the Bight. We report and discuss the observed carbon-14 distribution in relation to the general hydrography of the area. For all sample depths, a close correlation of the Bight data with previous measurements from the southeast Indian Ocean was found. Our data represent the first successful Australian Accelerator Mass Spectrometry measurements for ocean water samples, and in the future, we plan to use the observations to validate output from computational experiments with a general ocean circulation model of the Southern Ocean.

On The Distribution of Bomb Carbon-14 in the Southern Ocean
In an earlier WOCE newsletter (Ribbe & Tomczak, 1995) we reported on the development of an off-line radiocarbon validated tracer model for the Southern Ocean based on the Fine Resolution Antarctic Model (FRAM). During the initial stages of the project computational experiment were carried out with the model for an idealised oceanic tracer. We intended to verify the physical mechanisms that oper...

Predictions of total and even partial changes in rivers patterns are as the most essential issues related to rivers geomorphology. In this regarding, a lot of researches have been done by geomorphologists. This research has explored Kordan River aqueduct morphology changes in bights areas of Afkaneh cone surface. Kordan river is the one which has been affected by various factors and has changed...

This study proposed a novel method for preparing activated carbon from Australian Pine cones (APCs) to optimize Pb(II) adsorption. Based on an analysis conducted, the APCs dried powder consisted of approximately 51.32 wt% of cellulose and 21.15 wt% of lignin on average. Experiments in batch mode at 100-rpm stirring speed, pH 4.7 (± 0.3) and 27 oC (± 2 o</su...

متن کاملBanded vegetation in some Australian semi-arid landscapes: 20 years of field observations to support the development and evaluation of numerical models of vegetation pattern evolution
Periodic vegetation patterns (PVPs) are striking features of many global drylands. Although they have attracted wide research study, resulting in many hypotheses, their origin and controlling factors remain unresolved. Theoretical works dominate a large literature seeking to account for the occurrence and properties of PVPs, especially banded vegetation patterns (‘tiger bush’). In light of...
